March 13, 2010.
Lady Gaga and Beyoncé’ premiered the long awaited, much hyped “Telephone” video Thursday night on E! News at 11:30pm EST, although VEVO, the unholy alliance of record companies that is systematically destroying YouTube (by blocking/deleting 1000s of videos and fan’s channels on a daily basis), pulled a huge blunder and posted the video on their YouTube channel three hours early. They later made the video “private” but not before thousands of fans had seen it and posted it on Facebook and their websites. We wouldn’t be surprised if E! News sued them for breach of contract. And well they should!

Since VEVO was formed, they have consistently slapped fans’ faces by blocking official videos already posted on 1000s of websites all over the Internet, effectively screwing up the archives of 1000s of fan blogs. They also block their videos from being seen in many other countries, something we find rude and stupid. The VEVO video format is slow and jerky, and although they claim otherwise, the quality is extremely poor on most browsers.

Luckily, MTV and Vh1 posted the “Telephone” video on their own websites via their high quality players. UPDATE! (8-11-10) Universal and VEVO have furthered their conspiracy against the fans. They have pulled all their videos from MTV and VH1, further screwing up blogs and websites all over the country. So now we have been forced to use their poor quality videos. What a rotten shame!

We would also like to note that MTV and Vh1 uploaded the "Telephone" video onto their websites at the proper time, just after midnight, unlike VEVO who screwed up royally, jumping the gun by three hours.

The “Telephone” video was directed by Jonas Akerlund, who previously worked with Gaga on her extremely successful “Paparazzi” video, which is actually Part One of the “Telephone” story. The new video (Part Two) begins with the singer being put in prison for killing her boyfriend.

Discussing the video with Ryan Seacrest on KIIS-FM recently, Lady Gaga said: “I feel so bad for the ‘Bad Romance’ video ’cause the ‘Telephone’ video’s so much better."

Canadian performance artist and personal trainer Heather Cassils was handpicked by Gaga to play the role of her prison yard girlfriend. Gaga continued, "What I like about it is it’s a real true pop event, and when I was younger, I was always excited when there was a big giant event happening in pop music and that’s what I wanted this to be.”

“Telephone” is from Gaga’s new album The Fame Monster, which already brought us the number one hit, “Bad Romance.”

From MTV News comes this article: Does Lady Gaga's 'Telephone' Top 'November Rain' By Guns N' Roses? by Kyle Anderson in Music:

Late Thursday night (March 11), Lady Gaga finally unveiled "Telephone," one of the most hotly-anticipated music videos in recent memory. The epic clip runs nearly 10 minutes and features a super-colorful, quick-cutting narrative that follows Gaga as she goes to jail, extracts revenge on a diner full of patrons and goes on a general mayhem spree with the help of Beyoncé and the giant yellow truck from "Kill Bill."

Closer image of Lady Gaga dressed in skimpy police tape while in jail. Lady Gaga custom made crime scene tape outfit by Brian Lichtenberg. Hair by Danilo. Make Up by Billy B. Styling by Nicola Formichetti. "Telephone" video capture photo.

There's also lots of cursing, all types of wacky fashion, fistfights, a poison recipe, plenty of athletic dancing and a cliffhanger at the end. It's unlike any other music video in recent memory, even surpassing past Gaga efforts like "Paparazzi" and "Bad Romance."

At the same time, it does conjure up memories of Guns N' Roses' "November Rain," a similarly lengthy video that acted as the second entry in a trilogy of cinematic clips. ("Telephone" also acts as a sequel to "Paparazzi" and sets up a third clip at the end.)

Image of Lady Gaga's sister, Natali Germanotta, who made her acting debut with this cameo in "Telephone." Video capture picture.

When Guns N' Roses released Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II back in 1991, front man Axl Rose wanted to create something truly unprecedented when it came to music videos. He collected three ballads from the two albums ("Don't Cry," "November Rain" and "Estranged") and crafted something of a narrative.

Though the story is told out of order, the trilogy casts Axl as a vaguely fictionalized version of himself and the struggles he has with the woman in his life (played by then-girlfriend Stephanie Seymour). Over the course of three videos, they have a fight, Axl takes a lot of pills, Seymour dies in the rain (somehow) and everybody ends up sort of sad and depressed at the end.

Unfortunately, while the narrative made a bit of sense through "Don't Cry" and "November Rain," it totally falls apart during "Estranged." It's possible that the sudden unavailability of Seymour (she left Axl before the third video could be filmed) threw monkey wrench in the scenario, though it's also possible that Axl was facing the collapse of his band and simply forgot where the story was going.

Or perhaps he never knew where it was going in the first place. Regardless, the video for "Estranged" does make reference to the other two clips but is mostly remembered as the video where Axl is (apparently) kidnapped by a dolphin.

Picture of Lady Gaga all dressed up in black and white and a huge hat as she leaves jail after Beyonce paid her bond. Lady Gaga vintage hat and outfit by Thierry Mugler. Hair by Danilo. Make Up by Billy B. Styling by Nicola Formichetti. "Telephone" video capture photo.

So far, the story told during the series of Gaga videos is much more straightforward: Gaga gets involved with a man ("True Blood" star Alexander Skarsgard) and kills him in "Paparazzi."

Then Lady Gaga goes to jail for it and breaks out to extract some form of revenge in "Telephone."

There are plenty of other references to other Gaga videos in "Telephone" as well (like the cigarettes from "Bad Romance" and the dogs from "Poker Face").

It seems as though Gaga may have better luck in her trilogy than Axl did, but until we see the third one, Rose remains the video trilogy king.

Working with the fabulous Beyonce for a second time, here’s what she had to say about re-teaming up with Gaga: “It was fun to work with Gaga again. This video was a unique opportunity to do something we think will surprise our fans in a creative, edgy way not always seen.” END.

Read this article from MTV News: Nicole Scherzinger Talks About Telephoning Gaga:

If anybody has access to call Lady Gaga up and chat for a bit, it’s Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, who toured with Gaga in 2009. And if Scherzinger can get her on the phone, she’s got a few specific things she’d like to ask.

“If I could call Lady Gaga on the phone and ask her for anything … I would ask her if she could design my next costume for my next music video."

"No, I would ask her to do a song with me,” she joked. “Because she is flipping brilliant.”

After getting the career-related stuff out of the way, she’s got a question about a little something she gave Gaga a while back. “I’d ask her, you know what I would say, I say, ‘Gaga, you still have those really pretty Vivienne Westwood earrings that I bought you when we were on tour?’ And if she says, ‘Yeah,’ I’ll say, ‘OK, cool, you remember those earrings, right? Yeah, when are we going to do a song together?” she joked.

And while Scherzinger is currently in reinvention mode with the Pussycat Dolls, she told us she admires Gaga’s ability to constantly reinvent her own look.

“Already within the year, two years she’d been on the scene, she’s just always inspiring us with music,” she said. “She’s reinvented herself eight times this past week!” END. Check out the official MTV News video interview with Vivienne Westwood at the base of this post!

After an attempt to decode just what might happen in Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” video , it’s time to take a look at some of the fashion-forward ensembles Gaga has been sporting in the leaked photos leading up to the video’s Thursday premiere.

She’s worn everything (and nothing) from crime-scene tape to leather and studs and MTV News gathered a few fashion experts to weigh in on some of Gaga’s “Telephone” looks.

The Telephone Eye Patch Made of Hair Kelly Cutrone, “The Hills” and “Kell on Earth”: “I just love this whole thing. It’s totally insane.” Robert Verdi, celebrity stylist: “It’s interesting that Gaga is inspired by the telephone because it’s almost an object of yesteryear. There’s something really almost nostalgic already about a telephone, particularly in the way she’s using it in some of them. She’s deconstructing it and it’s somehow metaphoric for communication and it’s attached to her head, which is kind of the direction we’re going in.”

The American Flag Ensemble Cutrone: “[This look is] a little like if a baton twirler had sex with David Lee Roth and Axl Rose.” Verdi: “She’s wearing the American flag and her hair’s down kind of like a hippie. I think she’s inspired by Jimi Hendrix in that frame.” Richie Rich, Heatherette designer: “It’s a little Guns N’ Roses and it’s cool.”

How the “Telephone” Look Fits Into Gaga’s Aesthetic Cutrone: “I think she’s growing up nicely and starting to bust out on her own. I think she’s making much stronger pop-art statements.”

“There are talks about a 3-D concert and DVD in the near future,” rep for Gaga tells MTV News.

Lady Gaga is currently in the midst of the Australian leg of her massive Monster Ball tour — with scheduled stops in Japan and Europe — and, as you probably know by now, she also just put the finishing touches on the much-anticipated “Telephone” video, too.

Lady Gaga sent this highly erotic twitpic of Beyonce and herself to her fans Saturday, March 13, 2010, saying "I think the Pop Universe just imploded. Completely brilliant. Whoever made this BRAVO!" Research tells us this lesbian art is by Yamin0 (Elena Bararich).

But neither of those things are standing in the way of yet another ambitious endeavor, a planned 3-D concert and subsequent DVD.

On Monday (March 8), MTV News spoke to a rep for her label, Interscope Records, who told us that “there are talks about a 3-D concert and DVD in the near future.” No other information — including just how a 3-D concert would manifest — was available at press time.

Late last week, Gaga fansites began speculating about plans for a 3-D DVD, but this is the first time a concert has been mentioned. In December, Gaga released a deluxe edition of her The Fame Monster album, which included a pair of 3-D glasses that she mysteriously explained would come in handy “for things happening soon.” END.
