Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper always walk the talk and they spent Wednesday bringing awareness of the MAC AIDS Fund and their Viva Glam Lipstick to morning TV audiences, including NBC’s The Today Show and Good Morning America on ABC. Later, the two divas attended a related black tie fundraiser, the amFAR AIDS Research Gala, in New York City Wednesday night (February 10, 2010) for a special tribute in memory of the late amfAR Trustee Natasha Richardson. Lady Gaga debuted a brand new song called "Future Love," which she specifically wrote for the amFAR AIDS Research Gala. She sang it on a white rotating piano. Watch the video by scrolling downward!
The fundraiser, which costs upwards from $1000 per person, was presented by Mathilde Krim, Vanessa Redgrave, and Meryl Streep. The festivities honored Elton John and his partner David Furnish for their awareness and fundraising efforts on behalf of AIDS/HIV victims. Lady Gaga performed “Future Love” to an appreciative audience that whooped and hollered. She also accepted Elton John’s award on his behalf. Watch videos of all the aforementioned events, including the pop singers appearances on Good Morning America and the Today Show, at the bottom of this post.

The fashion icons appearance on The Today Show took place during the program’s 4th hour (known as the Kathy Lee and Hoda segment), wherein they were interviewed by Hoda Kotb and Al Roker, who stood in for Kathy Lee Gifford. Lady Gaga and Cyndi noted the MAC Fund’s campaign that has produced $150 million since 1994 and their lipsticks—Viva Glam Gaga and Viva Glam Cyndi—will be rolling out in stores come March. However, you can purchase the lipstick now from the MAC Fund Viva Glam website for $14 each.

The pair also hit Good Morning America, where Gaga said of Cyndi, “It’s very easy for us to work together. We have a lot in common.”
“I’m sitting next to a woman I’ve admired my entire life, who’s legendary as a fashion icon and as an artist who really, really changed music for women,” Gaga said, as Cyndi's eyes began to water. “We’re speaking to you about a cause that affects women all over the world. I never knew that I would be allowed to have the responsibility that I have today.”

Lauper, a longstanding AIDS activist and friend of the LGBT community, said that every dollar made from the sale of the Viva Glam lipstick goes to the MAC AIDS Fund, which supports community organizations providing direct services to people living with the disease.
Although the television interviewers seemed to prefer talking about Lady Gaga's two Grammys and Cyndi Lauper's upcoming appearance on Donald Trump's The Celebrity Apprentice, the two superstar singers kept bringing the topic back to the business at hand—helping to stop the spread of AIDS, much to their credit.

Meanwhile, Women’s Wear Daily just published a photo timeline of the many looks of Cyndi Lauper and Lady Gaga, which you can check out here.
Lady Gaga described her new shade to MarieClare.com, dubbed Viva Glam Gaga, as a spin-off from one of her favorite MAC hues, Pink Nouveau, while Cyndi’s is more red. Each sells for $14 and can be purchased here.

Your look is so theatrical. Where do you get your inspiration?
My makeup icon was originally my mom, then Marilyn Monroe, then Judy Garland, because I loved The Wizard of Oz. I'm fascinated — and this might sound a bit morbid — by famous movie stars who died tragically. I'm kind of obsessed, because they seemed to be these strong, beautiful women, but there was something inside them that we couldn't see.

Are you hiding something, too, then?
I'm sexual in my music. I'm provocative and over the top, but even I say no.

Do you consider yourself a role model?
I had an HIV test two days ago — and it's not because I'm taking off my clothes every night with a different man. When I'm on the road, I forget about taking care of my body. I don't go to the doctor as regularly as if I were in one place all the time. So I woke up and thought, Oh, I'm home in New York. I'm going to see my gyno and I'm getting an HIV test.

You're the new face for the MAC AIDS Fund. What's your goal for this year?
Women need to protect themselves. I don't want Viva Glam to be just a lipstick you buy to help a cause [all profits go to the MAC AIDS Fund]. I want it to be a reminder when you go out at night to put a condom in your purse right next to your lipstick. Let's be strong women together.

So we need to take more responsibility?
You put that condom in your purse and save your own fucking life. And don't call me in a week and cry. Because you know that infamous call from your girlfriend — "Oh, my God, I got caught up, and I was afraid he wouldn't like me." I mean, what year is it? It's scary, but I want it to be fashionable to be smart.

Got it. So what's the story behind the Gaga lipstick shade for MAC?
Closeup photo of Lady Gaga's new arm tattoo, "Little Monsters," mentioned on the Today Show interview. Google kept uploading it at this angle even though it was supposed to be horizontal, and after seeing how much easier it was to read this way, I gave in and left it alone. January 2010 picture via Lady Gaga Twitpic.
I used to wear this MAC color called Pink Nouveau, but I tweaked it to make it my own. When you layer it, it's as dark as Pink Nouveau, but when you put it on sheer, it's really good for every day. To my fans: My little monsters, don't buy Pink Nouveau, buy this one!
Another image talked about during The Today Show interview Wednesday morning. Lady Gaga tweeted this wonderful black and white photo of herself, right when it was announced that she won her two Grammy Awards. She tweeted, “beautiful photo taken of me the moment I found out I won my Grammys. All the hundreds of songs I wrote, the thousands of shows, the fans, all the blood and tears flashing instantly. Photo by Haus member the famous ‘Dada’ Williams.” Taken 1-31-10.

And here’s the piece from Woman’s Wear Daily (WWD.com): LADY GAGA, CYNDI LAUPER TAPPED BY MAC AIDS FUND, by Julie Naughton and Pete Born. Posted Tuesday February 09, 2010. For WWD Issue 02/10/2010:

Gathering two of music’s most eccentric (and eccentrically dressed) personalities in one room at a restaurant known as a cross-dresser paradise is a recipe for spontaneous personality combustion — especially when the two in question are Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper at Lucky Cheng’s in Manhattan.

It’s a sartorial match made in heaven (or, for some, that other place) — Lauper, who rose to fame in the Eighties as much for her outrageous get-ups and rainbow-hued hair as for her number-one records, and Gaga, who wears everything from a hair bow made of her own hair to Giorgio Armani PrivĂ©.
It’s also a meeting to talk about sex: specifically, the ad campaign for the MAC AIDS Fund, where the two have teamed up. Both women are expected to make personal appearances on behalf of the initiative.

“People think if you’re strong about your sexuality, you must have a d--k,” says Gaga apologetically. “And that’s what this is about. You can be strong about your sexuality and be a smart woman who wears lipstick and high heels and looks pretty.”

On this day, she’s clad in a sparkly Marc Jacobs bustier, nude fishnets and a pair of six-inch platform heels — and announces proudly that she had an AIDS test two days before. Lauper, music’s original girl who just wants to have fun, is clad almost conservatively in a black jacket, black skinny pants and black ankle boots, and is positively maternal toward her young charge, making sure she has a cup of tea and calling her Booboo. The outrageous Gaga, 23, obviously finds the daughter role comfortable.

Mother and daughter they may not be, but Lauper definitely paved the way for Gaga’s getups — and Gaga obviously appreciates it. “Everyone was saying I looked like a crazy trannie, and I was like, ‘Thank you,’” says Gaga. “Then when I met her for the first time, Cyndi saw me in the hallway and said, ‘You look great, kid. Take no prisoners.’ She understood me.”

“We lucked out,” says Lauper. “When we met each other, we liked each other and are interested in the same type of things. We laugh about similar things.”
