Adam Lambert flew to Toronto, Canada on Monday, January 25, 2010, and, to the delight of his Canadian fans, who gathered in droves wherever he went, appeared on MuchMusic’s Much on Demand (MOD) Show, Canada’s ET (Entertainment Tonight) program, the eTalk TV show, MTV Canada, numerous newspaper interviews, and a ton of radio programs. We have dozens of photos and videos of his whirlwind media blitz, which Adam Lambert undertook to publicize his debut album For Your Entertainment and its videos. The crowds, filled mostly with females from pubescent to grandmotherly, screamed and hollered at the tops of their lungs. It seems like Canada can’t get enough of our Glam Idol!

We already know that Adam will be interviewed by Jian Ghomeshi on Monday on CBC’s Q, which airs at 10 a.m. and repeats at 10 p.m. on CBC Radio One. And yes, I will be listening.

Heck, if it wasn’t for the fact I have to be at my desk Monday afternoon, and I don’t really enjoy crowds, I’d probably be there too. If you’d like to know more about MuchOnDemand and how you can send in questions for Adam, go to www.muchmusic.com. And if any of you get photos or have any close encounters with Mr. Lambert, comment here or drop me a line at dyeo@thestar.ca.

The Toronto Star published an article January 27, 2010, entitled “Adam Lambert as Wild as Ever” by Jane Stevenson, QMI Agency, as follows:
Don’t fret, Glambert fans. 2009 American Idol runner up Adam Lambert says he has not toned down his theatrical makeup, nor his over-the-top attitude. A story in the current issue of Entertainment Weekly suggests he had a “make-under” in the video for his second single Whataya Want From Me?, following his controversial appearance on the American Music Awards last November.
Picture of Adam Lambert sitting on a stool and answering questions on MuchMusic's MuchOnDemand (MOD) Show Monday. 1-25-10 photo.
“I love when people read into stuff, it’s fun,” Lambert said Tuesday morning at a Toronto hair salon to promote his debut album, For Your Entertainment. “It has all to do with the song. “Whataya Want From Me?” is emotional and vulnerable and is more sensitive. You can’t get up there in a glittery suit and with fancy eye makeup on, and be like grinding my pelvis around to that song. It doesn’t work.”
The 27-year-old openly gay singer says he just continues to be himself despite the AMA performance in which he kissed another male musician on stage, among other overtly sexual acts with both men and women.
Photo of Adam Lambert answering more fan questions during his MOD appearance in Toronto. 1-25-10 image.
“I don’t feel like what I did was wrong,” said Lambert, coasting on just two hours of sleep. “I just feel like the only reason why it was such a big deal and blown so out of proportion is because I’m a gay guy. We can watch a man and a woman kiss all over the place. Why can’t two men kiss? It’s a double standard ... Nobody really talks about (kissing the) women ’cause that’s not taboo.
“I just got excited and I was interpreting the lyrics of my song, which are frisky, and I didn’t think twice about it. I was like, ‘Oh, it’s a sexy, risqué little number. It’s 11 o’clock at night almost. It’s an awards show and people do this all the time on awards shows. Madonna did it. A lot of people have done it.”
Closeup photo of Adam Lambert's python snake skin boots. 1-25-10 picture.
After ABC received about 1,500 telephone complaints, Lambert’s planned subsequent performance on the network’s show, Good Morning America, was cancelled and CBS invited Lambert to perform instead on The Early Show, on the same date in New York City.
Image of Adam Lambert laughing and generally having a good ol' time in Canada Monday. 1-25-10 photo.
“I didn’t think it was a big deal and didn’t realize it was a big deal until after the fact, when people started griping about it,” said Lambert. “And I was a little bit bummed out because my intention wasn’t to upset anybody. It was just to kind of raise eyebrows. I was hoping that the reaction would be more along the lines of, ‘Oh, that Lambert. He’s so silly and over the top!’ And some people reacted that way. (But) there are people who are morally opposed to it, and I think that’s fine. Everybody has a right to their beliefs and their opinions, but that doesn’t mean that the FCC needs to punish those that don’t follow that moral code — ’cause it’s a free country.”
Picture of Adam Lambert on MOD talking about the ramifications of his raucous American Music Awards (AMA) performance. 1-25-10 photo.
“It was hard, I’m not going to lie. It was a little bit stressful. The ramifications of it hurt my feelings a little bit. But I got over it. I’m pretty resilient. You live, you learn. I think what I had to keep telling myself was, ‘You know what? I can’t change it now. Gotta move forward.’ I don’t like dwelling on anything. I like just moving forward. So I knew that that was my only choice, really.”

For Your Entertainment has sold over 500,000 copies since its late-November release. That is below expectations, according to Entertainment Weekly, and Lambert admits the AMAs controversy might have hurt sales.

“It might have turned some people off. But, you know, I don’t regret it. I think it’s me. I’m being myself. And I think with as many people that might have been turned off, there are just as many people, I hope, that saw what I was doing and enjoyed it.”
Lambert has no definite tour plans as yet.

Adam Lambert isn’t presenting or performing at Sunday night’s Grammy Awards in L.A., but he managed to talk Entertainment Tonight into making him a red-carpet fashion correspondent.

Lambert will be asking the usual “‘Who are you wearing kind?’ of stuff,” but said the reactions from the music stars to him should be priceless.

“I am excited,” Lambert said Tuesday in Toronto. “I’m a little apprehensive. I think the thing that’ll be interesting is to see the reaction of some artist going, ‘Is that the American Idol guy asking me who I’m wearing?’ That might be a little funny. But I think I like novel experiences. I like doing things that I’ve never done before. I like taking risks. And something like that is, ‘Why not? That sounds like fun. Cool.’”

As for who he hopes will win big at the Grammys, Lambert said he’s pulling for both Lady Gaga, who co-wrote one of the songs on his debut album For Your Entertainment, and Beyonce, of whom he’s a fan.

Lambert said it would have been fun to perform on the Grammys, but there was never any discussion about it. “I’m kind of the new kid of the block,” he said. “There are a lot of amazing talented people that will be performing that night (who are) established. I’m new. So hopefully, eventually.”

2009 American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert turns 28 on Friday and plans to celebrate with a private party at an L.A. bar with friends. “It’s funny because a year ago on my birthday it was all just starting,” Lambert said Tuesday in Toronto. “I had gotten through a lot of the preliminary rounds at (American Idol) and it was, like, about to happen. And I didn’t know what was going to be. So looking back a year ago, it’s so weird.”

Lambert said his sudden fame has taught him an important lesson. “Don’t take yourself too seriously,” he quipped. “Keep a light heart about it, and just kind of find the humor and the fun in it all — ’cause it’s very easy to get bogged down and be hard on yourself. I mean, everybody has an opinion. Everybody likes to make their opinions heard and they’re all over the Internet. And (there is) a lot of positive reinforcement, but there’s also a lot of negativity. Sometimes I read it, but for the most part I try to let it roll off my back.”
Another nice photo of Adam Lambert on CHUM radio. 1-25-10 picture.
The Canadian newspaper, TheStar.com, posted another fantastic article, by Ben Rayner, Entertainment Reporter. Read it now (after the Rolling Stone image):
It was David Bowie who first cannily reasoned that if you look and act enough like a rock star, you might actually become a rock star.
Picture of Adam Lambert dressed for warmth going into Toronto's Parlour Salon Tuesday for a nail job and interviews. 1-26-10 photo.
The same thinking paid off in spades for last season’s American Idol runner-up, Adam Lambert. He might have lost the final vote to Kris Allen, but his attitude, his charisma and his gift for playing rock ‘n’ roll dress-up–not to mention a supple voice that can really wrap itself around the high notes–marked him as one of the few true, born entertainers ever to grace the series. He arrived a star. He just needed a venue.
Photo of Adam Lambert posing with Suzzi of Toronto's Parlour Salon (www.parloursalon.com). 1-26-10 picture.
Granted, Lambert’s cockiness has since cost him a few fans on the “family values” side of things. Two days shy of the release of his debut album last November, the neo-glam extravaganza For Your Entertainment, he earned the ire of puritanical TV viewers and conservative pundits when he kissed a male keyboardist and shoved a male dancer’s face into his crotch during a live performance of the title track on the American Music Awards. One of the most ridiculously overblown epidemics of gay panic this side of Brüno erupted, and America still hasn’t completely gotten over it.
Picture of Adam Lambert and Ben Kaplan having their nails done at the Parlour Salon in Canada Tuesday. January 26, 2010 photo.
“The TV networks have been punishing me for it. They wouldn’t let me do any live TV. They still haven’t,” says Lambert, 27 (until Friday), reclining beneath a painting of Marilyn Monroe in a trendy Ossington Ave. boite. “I’m not bothered by it anymore. It is what it is and I do think it’ll blow over. Time heals and people are fickle and all that. But it’s even made some other networks nervous about other projects, ones I shouldn’t talk about for `political’ reasons.
Photo of Adam Lambert braving Toronto's cold weather after leaving the Parlour Salon. 1-26-10 image.
“It’s too bad. Especially because, I feel, the media has a responsibility to progress society. It would be really nice if the media tried to open their minds and desensitize certain parts of the U.S. to certain things. I see straight people kissing all the time, so why is two men kissing obscene?”
More hot photos like this keep cropping up of Adam Lambert dressed in white at the Art of Elysium Black Tie Charity "Heaven" Gala in Beverly Hills. 1-16-10 picture.

For his part, Lambert is just incensed that 1,500 angry letters to the FCC in a nation of 300 million can have such repercussions. Team Lambert, for instance, is still trying to figure out what scale of tour it should mount this year, if any.

Ideally, of course, he’d love to go big and theatrical, with “costumes and video and lighting and explosions: the whole thing.”
Closeup photo of Adam Lambert's white gloved ring hand at the Elysium Gala. January 16, 2010 picture.
What he’d prefer not to do in the meantime is become a crusader for gay rights in pop music. “On the one hand, I think it’s cool because there isn’t a lot of visibility for a young, gay, male musician. But … I do resent slightly the fact that when I’m presented in the media, it’s `openly gay singer and American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert.’ … My occupation is not `openly gay guy.’ I’m a singer. My sexuality should be a sidebar, if anything.”

And finally, this from the Canadian Broadcasting Company News, the video of which you can watch by scrolling downward:
In a 1-25-10 interview with CBC's Q cultural affairs show, Lambert said he is heeding some advice from Madonna about fame.

"She said, 'You really have to keep your eye on the prize and put your blinders up,'" Lambert said. "Don't get sidetracked by what the press is saying about you and what message boards are saying about you and this and that.... Have a goal, have a focus and just stay tuned in on that."

Lambert has no regrets about anything he's done in the last year — certainly not about his aggressively sexual image. Not even about his controversial American Music Awards performance, which offended many viewers with its simulation of oral sex.

"I own what I did. I take responsibility for it. When I've made last-minute impulsive choices in the past I've had good experiences and I was just going with it," Lambert said. "It was a polarizing performance, which is kind of what I did on Idol."
Photo of Adam Lambert in the Spring 201o issue of V Man Magazine, which just came out yesterday. 1-28-10 image.
Lambert's father was a Grateful Dead fan and former college DJ with a huge record collection, while his mother loved Al Green and other soul artists. He loves the music of the '70s and says he wants to project that same "sense of freedom of expression and diversity" in his own music. When he thinks about his goals, it's mostly about "keeping the party going."

He freely admits the pace of the last year has left him little time to think about creative direction.

"On the good end of it, the momentum didn't die. I got off the show, immediately started writing and working with producers, did the tour, continued recording during that, and then two months after the tour put the album out," he says of For Your Entertainment.
Another interesting picture of Adam Lambert from VMan. Scanned image.
"There was really no chance for me to think too hard. It was kind of like just go, take action."

"I try to stay true to all the things that I like about music as a listener. I wanted to nod to all the classic rock stuff that I did on Idol and not disappoint those fans, but I wanted to somehow fuse it and blend it into contemporary dance pop which is the stuff I actually listen to more of," Lambert said.

He is embracing his new life with gusto, thinking about promoting the album, making music videos and perhaps trying his hand at singing some Freddie Mercury, as Justin Timberlake recently suggested to him. "There are projects I want to work on," he said. "But ultimately just going for the ride and being in the moment is the most important thing."
