December 1, 2009.
Adam Lambert sat down with Ellen Degeneres on her show today and said he is “going in new directions” and acknowledged he “may have gone a little far" at the 2009 American Music Awards (AMAs) for his first major performance since coming in number two on American Idol. He also told her "I think in hindsight, I look back on it and I go, 'Okay, maybe that wasn't the best first second impression to make.' I mean I had fun up there, I had a good time, my dancers had fun and the band had fun. I respect people and feel like people walked away from that feeling disrespected. I would never intend to disrespect anybody. So that was not my intention.”

“They gave me a great opportunity to close the AMA’s and I would never want to smack that gift horse in the mouth,” Adam continued. “I think that they were taking a big leap of faith having me do that and unfortunately it didn’t work out as we all thought it would.”

Ellen came to Adam’s defense, intimating that too big of a deal was being made out his AMA performance. She told him, "If you're going to be offended by a show of sexuality onstage, then you should be offended by all shows of sexuality." Luv that Ellen! She always knows the right thing to say!

Adam then performed the slow number “Whata Ya Want From Me” from his For Your Entertainment album CD and received a big hug from Ellen afterwards.

On Twitter Monday, Adam Lambert sent the following messages to his fans:

"AMA performance was a one time event. Goin' in a new direction now. Focus back on the music."

Continued Lambert, "Don't worry friends: I'm still gonna be me. Always. W/o apologies. Just gonna experiment differently w how I present myself, I'm learning."

"And thank you all for your kind and supportive tweets. Means more than you can imagine. It was a looong week," he added.

As we all know, Adam received harsh criticism for simulating oral sex and kissing a male band member at the 2009 American Music Awards on November 22, 2009, and the next day was bumped from a Good Morning America appearance. The kiss was blurred during Lambert's interview on the CBS Early Show, while a kiss between Madonna and Britney Spears remained intact, causing bloggers and gay-rights organizations to slam the network.

Be sure to watch the Barbara Walters’ Special Ten Most Fascinating People of 2009 December 9th on ABC. Barbara says she chose Adam because he was a “prominent name” in the entertainment industry, and he is “rather fond of the shock factor.” That Barbara is so astute! Gotta love her, too!

As the holidays are getting close, Ellen reminds everyone of the importance of helping those who need it. That’s why once again, Ellen is asking her audience members to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to the Toys for Tots program.
