The California Supreme Court blew it today by allowing the majority to dictate the civil rights of a minority. I predict riots in the streets over this travesty. The only good thing was the justices’ unanimous decision to allow the state’s 18,000 gay marriages already performed to remain on the books.

Justice Carlos Moreno wrote the sole dissenting opinion, saying denying same-sex couples the right to wed "strikes at the core of the promise of equality that underlies our California Constitution. It represents a drastic and far-reaching change. Promising equal treatment to some is fundamentally different from promising equal treatment for all." California gays are planning to take the issue back to the ballot box next year, so all is not lost. Recent polls show public opinion has been slowly changing on this subject.

Congratulations to President Barack Obama for choosing 
Sonia Sotomayor, 54, as the first Hispanic nominee to serve on the United States Supreme Court. He praised her as "an inspiring woman with both the intellect and compassion to interpret the Constitution wisely.” He always seems to know the right thing to do! Even conservative Elisabeth Hasselbeck on The View lauded his choice. Here’s a link to a New York Times’ profile of the revered judge.
The new Star Trek movie is not only garnering great box office, it is making superstars out of 
Zachary Quinto (left) and Chris Pine (right). Although sultry Quinto is already well-known for the TV show Heroes, I remember him from when he "played" Tori Spelling’s gay best friend on her MTV show, So noTORIous, a short-lived but hilarious reality comedy series.
