Kudos to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama for granting full diplomatic rights to same sex spouses of all State Department employees. The partners will now be issued passports and be trained at the Foreign Service Institute, etc. This is the first positive action by the Obama Administration for GLBT civil rights. May it be the beginning of many more good things to come.
Funniest Line Ever: Jay Leno, on the Tonght show, comparing George W. Bush to Bill Clinton: “At least when President Clinton screwed the nation, he did it one person at a time.”
Male dance partners Mitchel Kibel (straight) and Misha Belfer (gay)
US Magazine reports judge and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe has apologized to the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) after making comments against a same-sex dance couple on Thursday night's So You Think You Can Dance premier. His criticism evoked indignation and a boycott threat from GLAAD, after he told male partners Misha Belfer (gay) and Mitchel Kibel (straight, so he says): "I think you will probably alienate a lot of our audience. I mean, we've always had the guys dance together on the show, but they've never really done it in each other's arms before." He also apologized for twittering the following: "The same-sex ballroom guys did remind me of Blades of Glory. However, I'm not a fan of Brokeback Ballroom." What surprises me the most about the whole affair is Nigel. All this time I thought he was a big old queen!
Short Memory Dept: Why are the news talk shows lending fresh credibility to Newt Gingrich by giving him a forum to spew forth his outdated hate-filled rhetoric? Didn’t he lose all of his conservative authority when America discovered he was hypocritically preaching morality while cheating on his wife back in the nineties? Not to mention how he resigned in disgrace as Speaker of the House in 1998 after he was charged with ethics violations regarding tax laws. It's a shame the way he continues to preach against gay marriage even though his sister is a lesbian. I couldn’t believe it when host David Gregory on Sunday’s Meet the Press asked Gingrich if he was planning to run for president in 2012. Please! Give me a break! Is this dingbat really the best the Republicans can come up with?
If you get the chance, watch Out at the Wedding, a truly hilarious movie now playing (over and over) on the gay LOGO TV channel. It’s the funniest thing since Ellen Degeneres.
President Obama said he wants someone for the Supreme Court who employs “empathy, understanding and identifying with people's hopes and struggles, when arriving at decisions that could influence the nation for decades.” It’s like he took the words right out of my brain!
It was good to hear from former Secretary of State Colin Powell in reference to Cheney and Limbaugh swipes on his integrity. Truer words were never spoken when he said the Republican Party needs to move away from the far right if it is to survive. Even conservative lynch man Karl Rove got it correct when he said, “Powell's vision for the Republican Party's future Is for Rush Limbaugh to shut up." See videos and other Powell news at The Huffington Post.
