Homophobic religious zealot Oklahoma Republican state Representative Sally Kern’s new antics are making Oklahoma the laughing stock of the world again. On July 2, 2009, her office issued a “Proclamation for Morality,” blaming the bad economy on “abortion, pornography, same sex marriage, and many other forms of debauchery,” caused by American citizens straying from “morality and Judeo-Christian values.” Perhaps you’ll understand her lack of empathy better if you read my news article, “Ultra-Conservatism Linked to Missing Gene” on this page of my website.

In the Proclamation, she chastises President Obama for “proclaiming an entire month to an immoral behavior” (i.e. declaring June Gay Pride Month), while admonishing him for disregarding “biblical admonitions to live clean and pure lives.” She goes on to say the “HOPE of Oklahoma rests upon the principals of religion and morality as put forth in the HOLY BIBLE.”
Here’s a link to Sally Kern's official website showing the full text of the unbelievably ignorant and hateful Proclamation. I can’t tell you how ashamed I am to be a citizen of this backward, uninformed state today!

Last year, unaware (in more ways than one) “Representative” Sally Kern was secretly recorded saying the “homosexual agenda was a greater threat to the U.S. than terrorism” and that schools are “indoctrinating two year-olds to believe that homosexuality is an acceptable lifestyle.” She is also the Oklahoma wing nut who declared that the Pittsburgh city council, among others, was controlled by gays.
Kern later said her comments were taken out of context and that she had received death threats after the recording was posted online. But investigations by the Oklahoma State Police indicated there were no credible death threats made against Kern.

But her comments did spark several protests, including a rally at the Oklahoma State Capitol that drew more than 200 people (as did Thursday's Proclamation signing), a large number for a state where you can still be beaten up or killed for being gay. Ron Marlett, a Democrat and a social worker, eventually filed to run against Kern for her seat in the state legislature, but Kern won, as Oklahoma remains a bastion of homophobia and passage-picking Bible-thumping judgmental doom sayers.

Now for the kicker! It turns out one of Sally Kern's two sons—Jesse—may be gay and rumors abound that she has disowned him. So much for her following the Bible’s message of love! Read the story about her adult son on Queerity.com.
Sally Kern's "I am not gay" son, Jesse Aaron Kern, who's just "musical"
.
An anonymous person commented about Jesse on the Internet: “I see in this foolish woman much anger and resentment. Her beliefs are challenged within herself, because if she stands by them then she must accept her part in her son being a homosexual. She isn't strong enough to do that. Instead, she has created a paranoid delusion that there is some vast conspiracy of gays infiltrating schools and governments to turn others gay and force their lifestyles on everyone. Her subconscious has created this great gay evil so she doesn't have to blame herself and she says her son as a victim.”
For the record, Tulsa World reported last year that Jesse Aaron Kerns, now 32, claims to be celibate, not homosexual. "First of all, no one's sexuality is anyone's business. It is not even my mother's business," he said in a telephone interview from Iowa. "I practice celibacy to give to my God."
Jesse’s mother was quoted as saying, “My son is not gay. He is artistic, very musical and not one to play on the football team.” Well, I’m certainly glad they cleared that up!
Of course, Sally Kern’s inability to understand people who are different is not her fault. Read my news article “Ultra-conservatism Linked to Missing Gene” on this page of my blog.
