September 29, 2009. The Game Show Network (GSN) recently announced that Star Trek alumni George Takei and his husband, Brad Altman (see photo above), will make television history as the first gay couple on The Newlywed Game. "What we want is to display the normality and the joy of having a happy union," Takei said. "To be included in something we never felt we'd be included in is very satisfying."
Takei and Altman, who have been together for 22 years, made their marriage official September 20 of last year, when it was still legal for gay couples in California to walk down the aisle. Takei said he's been studying his husband's wardrobe and food orders in preparation for the show.
The Newlywed Game, which has been on and off the air since 1967, will premiere its second season October 12. The espisode with George and Brad will air October 13. GSN programming chief Kelly Goode told the Associated Press she could not speculate why the show has never featured gay couples before since the series has jumped from network to network over the years. However, Goode said the game's rules require couples to have a legally recognized marriage to play. .
Photo of The Newlyweds host Carnie Wilson. The former member of the pop singing group Wilson Philips told the media, "I've always loved game shows. My personality and energy is perfect for something like this. First of all, I'm married, and I loved watching The NewlywedGame when I was younger. I watched it all the time. I always hoped the couples would start fighting."
"It's needed at this point," Carnie Wilson, who has lobbied for an all-gay edition of the show since she started hosting the program last season, told TV Guide. "To me, this is not anything political. This is not a political statement. This show has always been about couples and how well they know each other."
Takei and Altman won't be the only celebrity pair on the on the series: Dancing with the Stars pros Edyta Sliwinksa and Alec Mazo; Davy Jones and his new bride, actress Jessica Pacheco; Biggest Loser couple Suzy Preston and Matt Hoover; Christopher Knight and Adrianne Curry; and Kristy Swanson and Lloyd Eisler are among the other star couples who will compete this season. .

September 29, 2009. Frankly, I never understood why gay women or men would want to serve in the military. Killing people in ill-conceived wars has never been considered honorable by any of the LGBT friends I have. A child of the sixties, I fought against all war while demonstrating on the streets for homosexual civil rights in 1969 San Francisco and Berkeley. It was clear then that war was wrong and that fact holds true to this day, especially when it’s somebody else’s internal conflict, like in Afghanistan. Doesn’t anybody else remember the train wreck we created in Viet Nam? .
Photo of West Point graduate Lt. Dan Choi, an Iraq War veteran, infantry officer, and rare Arabic linguist, who was recently fired by the military for being honest. Visit http://www.knightsout.org/, an organization of West Point Alumni, Staff and Faculty who are united in supporting the rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender soldiers to openly serve their country. Also check out the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network and do what you can to help. Over 13,000 lebsians and gays have been discharged under DADT simply because of who they love.
Now that I've got ranting about the evils of war out of my system (for the time being), the fact remains that destroying the lives of homosexuals who do want to serve our country by firing them for being openly gay is also morally reprehensible. Surely the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy will be repealed soon, allowing honesty, fairness, and freedom to prevail. In the meantime, we have stumbled upon video footage explaining the ill-logic behind the military’s refusal to allow gays to be themselves. Check out the enlightening interview below. .

Last Thursday, a broad coalition of Californians filed ballot language with the State of California for an initiative to repeal Proposition 8 in November 2010, and restore equal marriage rights for same-sex couples.
.
.
“Starting today, there is new hope for committed gay and lesbian couples who want to get married,” said John Henning, Executive Director of Love Honor Cherish, a grassroots association that is spearheading the effort to place the measure on the 2010 ballot. “We’re back on the path toward full equality.”
. .
Love Honor Cherish is one of more than 40 organizations that support repealing Prop 8 at the next general election (November 2010). The groups include Stonewall Democrats/Los Angeles, the Latino Equality Alliance, the Mexican American Bar Association, and the San Diego Alliance for Marriage Equality, among others. For a full list, go to www.RepealProp8.com. Although some LGBT rights groups believe we should wait until 2012, there is a growing consensus that equal rights cannot be postponed that long.
.
Photo of John Henning, executive director of LOVE HONOR CHERISH, speaking at the LGBT Leadership Summit in San Bernardino, CA July 25, 2009 about why we can't wait to repeal Proposition 8
Come this November (2009), the broad coalition of groups supporting the initiative will begin circulating petitions to gather the 1 million signatures needed to qualify the initiative. Henning called on supporters to mobilize immediately and start raising money for the effort. “Activists across the state have spent the summer organizing and recruiting signature gatherers and donors, and we’ll be continuing that work over the next 50 days,” he said. The name gathering process will last through April 2010.
.
Proposition 8 was an amendment to the California Constitution passed by voters in November 2008 that reversed a California Supreme Court decision in May 2008, which held that same-sex couples were guaranteed equal marriage rights under the California Constitution. “Prop 8 passed with only 52% of the vote,” continued Henning. “In the next 14 months, with hard work and inspiration, we can change the small percentage of hearts and minds that we need to win.”
.
Love Honor Cherish, which was formed in May 2008 to defeat Proposition 8, has already raised over $500,000 for the No on 8 campaign, and continues to mount its own outreach and media efforts. For more information and the exact wording of the ballot initiative, visit www.LoveHonorCherish.org.
Sometimes the best way to open people’s hearts and minds is through humor, so enjoy and share the following videos about Proposition 8 with your friends and enemies!

September 23, 2009. American Idol’s 18 year-old singing sensation, David Archuleta, just keeps getting better and better! Even though I was crushed when he came in second during the 2008 Idol contest, he has proven what others have shown: You don’t need to finish number one to land on top! The Latin crooner knocked them dead when he belted out “Contigo en la Distancia” on Friday’s National Council of La Raza ALMAAwards, taped Thursday, September 17 and aired on ABC last Friday, September 18. He also garnered the prestigious ALMA best "Year in Music" award. Watch the incredible performance in the video at the bottom of this post. .

. After the event, David wrote on his blog: “Buenos dias! I got to perform at some pretty cool events last week. I got to sing at the Tennis US Open, and sang 'America the Beautiful' (see video below) . . . Our next stop was in LA for the ALMA Awards! It was my first performance on an awards ceremony, and my first time performing on TV in Spanish!”
Photo of David Archuleta in red, his best color, because the young man is on fire!
David continued, “ . . . It's interesting actually because I was pretty nervous for both the US Open and the ALMA Awards. I think it's good though because it gives you a little extra push sometimes . . .”

“I was so happy to be able to do it for all the Latin people too! I owe so much to the Hispanic culture since my mom and all of her family are Hispanic (Honduran), and it's definitely had a huge impact on the way I am,” David said.

.
“So I'm definitely planning on doing more in Spanish, and I hope this will allow more opportunities. So I need to thank the ALMA Awards for having me come and perform, and it was really exciting to receive an award for new artist too!” .

.
David Archuleta became one of the most recognizable figures on television in 2008, when his strong tenor vocals and boyish charm helped earn him a second-place finish in American Idol's seventh season. Although he was born in Miami, Florida, on December 28, 1990, Archuleta spent most of his childhood in Utah, where he lived with his parents (Jeff, a jazz trumpeter, and Lupe Maire, a Honduran salsa singer) and four siblings. .
Another photo of David Archuleta on fire, showing off his fantastic vocal flair
.
Inspired by a videotaped performance of Les Miserables, he began singing at age six, and his gift allowed him to secure performances at the Utah Talent Competition, The Jenny Jones Show, and Star Search, where he was crowned "Junior Vocal Champion" in 2003.

.
David Archuleta auditioned for American Idol in 2007, earning his first praise from the judging panel with a rendition of John Mayer's "Waiting on the World to Change." He advanced to the semifinals and remained with the show throughout its entire season, delivering strong, passionate performances of such pop ballads as "Another Day in Paradise," "Angels," and John Lennon's "Imagine." .
Pensive photo of David Archuleta, a legend at 18 for his oral brilliance
. At 17 years old, Archuleta was the season's youngest contestant, and the constant presence of his father raised some questions about David's ability to make decisions on his own. His confident vocals did not invite much skepticism, however, as he ultimately emerged as the first runner-up to David Cook and inked a deal with 19 Recordings. "Crush," the initial single from his self-titled first album, David Archuleta, debuted at number two.
David Archuleta’s upcoming holiday album, Christmas From the Heart (cover pictured above), drops October 13, 2009. It can be pre-ordered from Amazon for $9.99 now. It will contain the following tracks:
1. Joy To The World 2. Angels We Have Heard On High 3. O Come All Ye Faithful 4. Silent Night 5. First Noel 6. O Holy Night 7. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas 8. I'll Be Home for Christmas featuring Charice Pempengco 9. Pat a Pan 10. What a Child Is This 11. Riu Riu 12. Ave Maria 13. Melodies of Christmas

September 22, 2009. New videos are leaking out from the recent Republican’s Values Voters Summit in Washington D.C. that show just how retarded the New Right has become. Their “New Masculinity” workshop taught parents to tell outright lies to their children! Stating with a straight face that “Homosexuality is inflicted,” and “Pornography is a silent disease that renders you less capable of loving your wife,” and “All pornography is homosexual because it’s directed inward,” Oklahoma's Republican Congressman Tom Coburn’s Chief of Staff (Michael Schwartz) spoke to a tiny room filled with people who love to hate in Washington D.C. Saturday, September 19, 2009, where he laid out instructions for deceiving their unsuspecting offspring. .
Photo of the Values Voter Summit logo with a topless picture of their darling dethroned beauty queen Carrie Prejean inserted to exemplify their hypocrisy. If you missed it, check out our post on Ms. Prejeans hilarious speech to the Summit last week, Carrie Prejean to Be Crowned in Heaven.
Schwartz told his rapt audience that in order to counteract the desire for pornography, simply tell your kids that porno is gay, and since boys don’t want to be gay, they will automatically reject looking at the stuff! Ha,ha,ha! That’s so funny!
.
Rachel Maddow, MSNBC's openly lesbian commentator gets down to the nitty-gritty craziness while reporting on the Values Voter Summit on The Rachel Maddow Show in the video below and in our earlier post.
.
Do you think there’s something in the water in Oklahoma that causes tragic delusions and severe retardation?
.
Photo of Michael Schwartz, Chief of Staff to U.S. Congressman Tom Coburn (R-OK). Schwartz told Summit goers to lie to their children about porno. Apparently, to Republicans who continue to live in the Dark Ages, ignorance is still considered bliss.
.
I hope the water's not contaminated, as it’s my current state of residence! However, with other nut-jobs from Oklahoma, like Sally Kern, hitting the headlines with their backward theories blaming homosexuals for the world’s ills, etc., it makes you wonder. .
Photo of Congressman Roy Blunt, who delighted Values Voter Summit goers with a disgusting "monkeys on a golf course" anecdote
.
Among other shenanigans, U.S. Congressman Roy Blunt (R-MO), an anti-gay Republican hypocrite who is affiliated with the Council of Conservative Citizens, an openly White Supremacist organization, told a racist monkey joke, while Bill O’Reilly, who was awarded the “Courage Award,” barred the media from his presentation. An MSNBC reporter, who was invited to cover the Values Voter Summit, was repeatedly harassed by right-wing audience members while trying to broadcast from the event.

September 21, 2009. Although a lot of gay blogs are giving full press to Charlize Theron’s talk on The View last Thursday about her commitment to same-sex marriage as if it’s the first time she’s spoken on the issue, the fact is she has been an advocate for the LGBT community's civil rights for many years now. .
9-17-09 photo of the charming and empathetic Charlize Theron on The View
.
Good-looking actor Stuart Townsend, 36, has been partner to drop-dead gorgeous actress Charlize Theron, 35, since the two met on the movie the set of Trapped in 2002. They live together in both Los Angeles, CA and England. Stuart has been quoted as saying "I don't need a certificate or the state or the church to define our relationship." The couple have appeared in the movies Head in the Clouds, Trapped and Aeon Flux together.

It was in 2005, when Theron—who won a 2004 Oscar for her role as real-life lesbian serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster—told TV's Extra that she and longtime boyfriend Stuart Townsend would not wed until gay marriage is legal in the U.S. People like Brad Pitt and Sarah Silverman have simply followed in her footsteps.

Then on April 8, 2006, Charlize Theron was among those recognized for increasing "visibility and understanding" at the 17th annual GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Media Awards in Hollywood.>

"This is very surreal for me because two years ago, I stood right here and won my Oscar for Monster," Theron told the audience at the Kodak Theatre as she accepted GLAAD's highest honor, the Vanguard Award.

"I feel so fortunate that I am in a relationship with a wonderful man," she continued. "I find it incredibly unfair that because of our sexual preference, we have the rights that we have, and that, because of someone else's sexual preference, they don't have those same rights."

So, when Charlize told the ladies of The View 9-17-09 that she won't get married until gay people can get married, it was old news. Nonetheless, it was wonderful to hear that her commitment has not wavered, but, if anything, has grown stronger.

During the interview, which you can watch in its entirely at the bottom of this post, the classy actress said, "I don't want to get married because right now the institution of marriage feels very one-sided, and I want to live in a country where we all have equal rights . . . I have so many friends who are gay and lesbian and would so badly want to get married, and I wouldn't be able to sleep with myself."

At one of their rallies to raise awareness about same-sex marriage and fight against Proposition 8, Charlize told the crowd, “The battle for equality has to be fought in Middle America—in places like Fresno, California—not just in gay-friendly cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles. California’s Central Valley population is far more reflective of national attitudes towards LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) equality – and until we engage the communities of Middle America, we will not achieve full equality in California.”

Charlize has starred in dozens of movies, garnering a multitude of awards. In here latest, The Burning Plain, which opened nationwide Friday, she plays a woman with several secrets, one of which is that she is a sex addict.

Although she appears naked and topless in The Burning Plain, as she’s done in two other flicks, she insists she is not an exhibitionist. “The nudity has to be paramount to the plot,” she said. Check out the trailer to The Burning Plain at the base of this column.
P.S. We love you, Charlize! You are wise, beautiful, sensitive, and talented. I hereby bestow upon you the title, "Sexiest Icon of the 21st Century!" You even beat Marilyn Monroe!

September 20, 2009. Britain’s X Factor TV show heated up yesterday with the audition of former Chicago native Ethan Boroian, a handsome crooner who now lives in London. According to the enthusiastic response from the judges, Ethan is going to give the show’s previously favored singer, openly bisexual Danyl Johnson, a run for his money. You can decide for yourself who's the hottest when you view the videos of their auditions, posted below. But first, here are some photos and mini-bios for the magnetic soloists. .
Photo of Danyl Johnson on the Today show
. Handsome, doe-eyed Danyl Johnson says he's done it with boys and with girls. The Aug. 23, 2009 issue of News of The Worldquotes him as saying: "I am a massive flirt. I wouldn't rule out someone just because of their gender. I haven't been in that many relationships, only about four. It's been a year since I was last with someone. That's horrible! I hate boxes, so I don't like to call myself gay, straight or bisexual. But yeah, I'll admit that I have dated men.”
Bisexual songster Danyl Johnson takes time off from his vocalizing to sit by the dock of the bay. 2009 photo
Danyl even says judges Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh are every bit as appealing as Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue! "They're all good-looking," said Danyl. "Simon and Louis are very nice. Between them I would pick Simon though—because he has a feisty attitude. I would love to be around someone like that. Even his hair and his clothes are just fine to me."
Photo of Danyl Johnson reacting to the X Factor judges positive critiques 8-21-09
Danyl Johnson, 27, is from Arborfield, a settlement just outside of Reading in England, “where everyone knows everyone,” he says. “The town has always been very supportive of my singing which helps me a lot.” He works at three stage schools, two in Reading called Mo’s and Starmaker and one in Windsor called SOTA, where he teaches Dance and Drama for youngsters aged 4 to 16.

“I love teaching,” Danyl says. “It’s always different and when the kids put on a show at the end of term I’m so proud of them, and the hard work they put in makes it all worthwhile.”
In his spare time, he sings and writes songs for a band called Empty Spaces. He loves tennis, golf, football, scary films, and theme parks. He sports a Superman tattoo on his right arm and is a longtime fan of the comic book hero.
Pensive closeup photo of a relaxed Danyl Johnson. Check out the dreamy eyes!
After whipping the audience into a frenzy during his August 21 try-out, receiving a rare standing ovation, and his performance being hailed "the single best first audition" by the impenetrable Simon Cowell, it’s not hard to see why Danyl Johnson thought it might be a good idea to audition for this year’s X Factor.

Almost too good-looking to be real, Ethan Boroian, now 19, was born on the 26th of October 1989 in Illinois and moved to France at the age of two. Ethan began strumming the guitar at 13 and a few months later formed a band with two friends. “Jona’s Basement” focused on rock music and played various clubs, including New Morning in Paris. .

After the band broke up in 2003, Ethan began trying different styles of music. A year into playing strictly Blues and Jazz, Ethan decided to expand into other genres. .

“The girls are gonna love you… you’re gonna go far in this competition!” predicted judge Louis Walsh, after Ethan’s performance, obviously having taken note of the high pitched squeals of both sexes coming from the audience.
