Tickets to the 50 London 02 Arena concerts the King of Pop planned to put on in a show he named Michael Jackson’s This Is It! sold out in minutes when they were put up for sale earlier this year. Estimates are the performances would have pumped a much-needed billion dollars into the United Kingdom’s economy.

Last night during the 2009 MTV Music Video Awards (VMAs), a Columbia Pictures preview was shown for the upcoming This Is It! film, which is based on rehearsal footage recorded by the concert promoter, AEG Live. If you missed it, you can now watch the full video trailer at the base of this column.
Chronicling the months from April through June, 2009, the film is being produced with the full support of the Estate of Michael Jackson. It’s taken from over one hundred hours of behind-the-scenes recordings, featuring Jackson dancing and singing a number of songs for the tour. Audiences will reportedly be given a private look at Jackson in raw and candid detail.

Kenny Ortega, who was both Michael Jackson’s creative partner and director of the stage show is also directing the film, which is being produced by Randy Phillips, Kenny Ortega and Paul Gongaware. Executive producers are John Branca and John McClain.

The film, distributed by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, will arrive in theaters on October 28, 2009 for a limited two week run. Tickets go on sale beginning September 27.
