Despite being lambasted by the UK media for having a “hissy fit” on Thursday and walking out on a rehearsal because of Simon Cowell’s song choice for him, Danyl Johnson performed the George Michael-Elton John mega-hit “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” with grace and style during The X Factor 2009 Live Show 7 Saturday night during Wham Week! He even earned praise from Simon himself for picking the “100% right song,” instead of the song Simon wanted him to sing at first, “Praying for Time.”

Let me say right now that there is no truth to the rumors floating around Twitter and Facebook that Danyl Johnson and Lloyd Daniels are having a gay affair or were “caught” doing something in the X Factor house, so get over it, guys! Stop searching for the dirt! There is none! Lloyd is only 16, for God’s sake! More about our favorite bisexual songbird Danyl Johnson later in this post!

We are down to the final six contestants! First up this week, after mostly positive comments from the judges last Saturday that unfortunately failed to keep him out of the bottom two last weekend, was Lloyd Daniels. Sporting a new look and haircut, the blond 16 year-old Welsh heartthrob crooned his way through “Faith,” exuding a lot of self-confidence, but only impressed about half of the judges.

Judge Dannii Minogue said, “You’ve definitely got something that’s the X Factor. I just can’t put my finger on it . . . but I know you need to use your falsetto more.”
“I love the new image, the new haircut,” exclaimed Louis Walsh, before this downer: “I love everything but the voice. You’re out of your depth. I think there are better singers.”
Simon was more complimentary, kind of. “That surprised me. It wasn’t bad at all actually. Not saying it was the best vocal, but it was believable. You’ve stepped up in a week!”

“You’re turning into a man in front of me eyes,” gushed Cheryl Cole, Lloyd’s mentor. “You look adorable and I think that was your best comfortable performance yet.” (Don’t you just love the way those Geordies talk? Not!)
My take: Good job in a light funky way, but not a champion performance by any means. He did look cute as hell, though, I must say, even if he is only 16!
Next up, was the last remaining female, Stacey Solomon, 20, singing the heart breaker “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” Who knew that was a Wham song? Everybody knows the song belongs to Bonnie Raitt! Did George Michael cover it once or twice or what? Talk about cheating! Never the less, having received high praise for her performance during Queen Week, the pressure was on for Stacey.
Louis Walsh praised the girl from Dagenham Essex. “You are a great performer and there’s nothing phony about you. Star quality!”
“Your voice has become as big as your personality,” chirped Cheryl Cole. “You just need to start believing you’re the winner!”
.
Simon was more subdued. “You’re one of the most genuinely nice people . . . but (your singing was) not as good as last week.”
Stacey’s mentor, Dannii Minogue, supported her protégé. “Such an elegant beautiful performance!”
My take: Numerous flat notes killed this song, one of my favorites of all time, and I don’t mean “killed” in a good way. Grrrrr!

Surrounded by a huge entourage of hot dancers, the Jedward Twins, John and Edward Grimes, 18, “sang” “I’m Your Man.” Dressed in white sport coats and T-shirts with pink lettering that declared, “Choose Life!” the Jedward Twins danced their 18 year-old asses off, much to the delight of little girls and dirty old men everywhere!

Dannii Minogue couldn’t stop smiling. “You look amazing! It was fun!”
“Of all the contestants, you two have been on the biggest and toughest show,” declared Cheryl Cole, “And no matter what happens, you should be really proud for making it this far.”

Simon found himself admitting they have indeed come a long way. “You have converted a lot of people, guys. Perfect song choice, but Louis has turned you into his version of Action Man Dolls. Every week, he gives you this crazy choreography. You’re like an unstoppable machine at the moment!”
“I give them big dance numbers because they are good at it!” declared the Twink Twins’ mentor, Louis Walsh. “Everywhere I go these guys are connecting with the young people.”

My take: Fun watching them dance but the vocals were flat as hell. Loved the shirtless dancers! Isn’t that called “Bait and Switch?”
Having ended last week’s show with a passionate, highly scored presentation from all four judges, Danyl Johnson hoped to deliver a great performance again. Singing “Careless Whisper,” a track that had gay guys falling in love with guys and sometimes girls back in the eighties, the 27-year-old gave a powerful and heartfelt vocal while dressed in a brown leather sport coat and white T-shirt.
Dannii Minogue’s comments were positive. “That was one of my all time favorite George Michael songs and I think that Simon did right by choosing a really original version. You sang it perfectly!”
But Louis Walsh was somewhat critical while praising the handsome crooner. “There is absolutely no doubt you can sing anything, but I think you tried too hard tonight.”
.
Apparently, Cheryl Cole was listening to someone else on her iPod or something because she said, “Parts of that were really flat, but I think your image and performance are always fantastic.” What?
Simon Cole, Danyl’s mentor, remained defensive. “Why that was so good is that’s what’s called respecting the song. You are 100% right for choosing that song!”

My take: While not Danyl Johnson’s all time best performance, it was excellent nonetheless. I certainly did not hear a single flat note!
Blond Olly Murs, 25, performed “Fast Love” with a huge group of dancers gyrating all over the place.

Dannii Minogue’s smile tempered her criticism. “There were problems in the first half, but once you got into the high register you were kicking it. You know how to rock the audience.”
“I loved everything about your performance,” said Louis Walsh. “You have the potential to be the new pop star in the UK.”
Cheryl Cole told the singer from Essex, “You always come out and deliver. I really like you and I really enjoyed your performance.”

“You’re going to have no problems with the chicks when you leave this competition,” was Simon’s remark to his protégé. “You are turning into a really, really good fearless performer. Great!”
My take: A little flat. A bland presentation in spite of the big dance number. Overall, I was disappointed.
“Such passion and honesty about your voice!” gushed Dannii Minogue. “We love you and you deserve to be here.”
Louis Walsh said, “That was the definitely the best performance of the night. You have great appeal!”
“You stole the show,” his mentor, Cheryl Cole, told Joe. “You absolutely smashed it!”
.
My take: Again, nice clear vocals coupled with great passion! Watch out, Danyl! I still favor you, but you need to step it up next week in order to win this hog show!
And with that the sun went down on Saturday’s Live Show 7. Now, the six finalists will have to stew overnight until Sunday’s Results Show. I think Danyl Johnson and Joe McEdlerry shined the most tonight. I predict Stacey Solomon and Olly Murs will be in the bottom two tomorrow, with Stacey going home at the end of the show. It should be a fun program, as Susan Boyle and Mariah Carey will be guesting!
The finals show began with a spirited rendition of Wham’s “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go,” with all six remaining contestants looking dapper in white with bright neon accents of pink, yellow, and lime green.

Then it was announced that The X Factor charity single, “You Are Not Alone,” has claimed the top spot in this week’s chart after selling over 193,000 copies, making it the second highest selling single of the year so far and raising hundreds of thousands for the charity. The song debuted on last week’s show and I’ve brought it back, among the videos at the bottom of this post, because it is so powerful and is for such a good cause.
“I'm absolutely delighted for Great Ormond Street Hospital that The X Factor single has been able to help,” said Simon, echoing the other judges’ sentiments.
“It’s absolutely fantastic to be part of a single that’s gone to Number 1 and is making a difference to people’s lives,” said a delighted Joe McElderry earlier.
After a recap of last night’s performances, powerhouse Susan Boyle sang, “Wild Horses,” from her debut album, I Dreamed a Dream, to be released tomorrow, along with every other new album in the world, including Lady Gaga’s The Fame Monster and Adam Lambert’s For Your Entertainment, to name just two. I love how Susan performs that song. She nearly brings me to tears every time I hear it. Even thought the performance was pre-recorded because of her busy schedule, she received a well-deserved standing ovation from both the audience and the judges!

FYI: Susan Boyle will appear on the Today Show tomorrow morning, November 23, 2009 in New York's Rockefeller Plaza to sing “I Dreamed a Dream,” as well as “Wild Horses,” “Cry Me A River,” and a surprise selection.
The I Dreamed a Dream CD will also includes her signature songs, "I Dreamed a Dream" and "Cry Me a River," as well as her cover of the Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses," Madonna's "You'll See," The Monkees' “Daydream Believer,” and "Who I Was Born To Be," an original recording written specially for Susan Boyle. The CD has broken Amazon’s all-time record for best-selling pre-sale album. Click here to listen to more Susan Boyle tracks.
Also pre-taped, Mariah Carey appeared on the big screen dressed in a flawless skin tight strapless black gown to sing a killer rendition of “I Want to Know What Love Is,” from her album Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel, recently released on September 29, 2009.

After the break, host Dermot O’Leary announced the four acts who will definitely be returning next week, “in no particular order.” Slowly as possible, he read the names out loud. First was Stacey Solomon. Shocker! Then, Joe McEdlerry’s name was called. No surprise there! The third safe act was Danyl! I jumped for joy and thanked Jesus, even though I’m not religious! And then, Dermot named the final act definitely coming back. It was Lloyd Daniels, to everyone’s amazement!
So, there we were staring at the bottom two: Twinks Jedward and the blond crooner Olly Murs, who would now have to sing for their lives.
John and Edward forwent all the splashy dancing to perform a lackluster flat rendition of a Boyzone ballad “No Matter What,” which was a big mistake. It probably sealed their demise. Without flash, their singing is just too awful to watch!
Olly sang an Eric Clapton hit, “You Look Wonderful Tonight.” He performed it well, with the exception of a few squeaky notes.

O’Leary then asked Simon Cowell to tell him who he wanted to send home.
“Boys, if you go tonight, I’m going to miss you,” Simon told the twins. “But I have to stick with my artist, so I’m sending home John and Edward.”
Cheryl Cole’s answer was short and semi-sweet. “Kisses, but I’m sending home John and Edward.”
The boys’ mentor, Louis Walsh, said. “I’m sticking with John and Edward and sending Olly home."
Dannii Minogue took her time and after repeating, “Is it a singing competition we’re putting on here?” she finally stated, “I’m going to have to send home John and Edward.”
So, finally, the Twink Twins got the boot, causing many Jedward haters to cheer on chat rooms all over the UK and sending tons of young girls into tears in their living rooms! And poor Louis Walsh! That was his last remaining act!

My take: Although John and Edward were fun, they definitely deserved to go. The poor guys couldn’t sing a note!
That’s it for tonight! Enjoy the videos and I’ll see you all next week, when the final five will be singing two songs each! Long Live the Danyl!
