The self-titled “Queen of all Media” has decided to embark on yet another project. Instead of just trashing famous celebrities, he’s going to promote new ones, i.e. “the hottest acts on the planet—from all over the world!” The very openly gay Perez Hilton has come a long way from the days when people who couldn’t spell would stumble upon his site while looking for information on the real Paris Hilton.
.
“Perez Hilton Presents,” as he calls his new venture, will tour North America, beginning September 10th in Atlanta, Georgia, with an initial lineup featuring Norwegian rock musician Ida Maria, New Zealand singer/songwriter Ladyhawke and the British pair of electro-pop artist Frankmusik and singer/songwriter Julian Perretta. The show will cap off in Los Angeles October 3rd, he revealed on his blog Tuesday. I’ve posted videos of each of these artists at the bottom of this post, so you can judge for yourself how brilliant they are. Click on each of their names to check out their MySpace pages, where you’ll find a lot more photos and clips.

Hilton, the recent subject of a glowing profile in the Los Angeles Times, as well as the Advocate, has already been dipping his toes into the music industry via his blog postings and Twitter messages, which often sing the praises of acts like Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.

Plus, The New York Times reports Perez Hilton is in the process of negotiating a deal that would provide him with his own imprint at Warner Brothers Records. This was confirmed by several other people associated with the talks who spoke on condition of anonymity because no deal has been finalized.

Hilton could receive $100,000 a year as an advance against 50 percent of any profits generated by artists he discovers and releases through Warner Brothers, these people said. A lawyer for Perez and representatives of Warner Brothers declined to comment on the negotiations.

The agreement under discussion would help support Hilton’s claims that he has an ear for more than the latest celebrity scoop. A label deal for Perez, whose website draws a staggering 2.8 million visitors a month, according to ComScore Media Metrix, would be a recognition of the influence that blogs can wield in generating music purchases through word of mouth.

Early CD reviews on blogs and magazine-style websites are generally coveted by music marketers. In a study conducted by researchers at the Stern School of Business at New York University, an examination of 108 albums in early 2007 determined that those that had been the subjects of blog posts before their release dates had sales three times the average .

Hilton’s approval has proved valuable to several little-known acts. In September the unsigned singer-songwriter Eric Hutchinson found he had received a boost after Perez posted a link to his website while raving about his music. Mr. Hutchinson’s album then cracked the Top 10 on iTunes, an impressive feat for an artist with no label backing.
Perez enjoys sharing his passion for music with readers, he told the New York Times, but “can’t wait to do it on a larger level. (This) is not a vanity project. I’m really going to be actively involved in it.”
