London born Robert Pattinson, the 23 year-old dark, brooding star of the popular vampire movie Twilight, portrays gay Salvador Dali to perfection in the new film, Little Ashes, due to be released nationwide today, after being in limited release since May 8.

The flick records the legendary quirky artist's romance with Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca (played by Javier Beltran). It appears the days of over-the-top butch action stars are waning. The majority of the current crop of entertainers and actors are more down to earth and real. Pattinson is an accomplished guitar and piano player plus he sings and composes. He once told an interviewer that up until age 12, his sisters would dress him up as a female and present him to people as “Claudia!”

Robert did some modeling as a young man, about which he says, "When I first started I was quite tall and looked like a girl, so I got lots of jobs, because it was during that period where the androgynous look was cool. Then, I guess, I became too much of a guy, so I never got any more jobs.” He also said darts and pool are the kind of sports he prefers, and that he lied about enjoying snowboarding and soccer to impress producers during his early movie auditions.

After acting in amateur plays with the Barnes Theatre Company from the age of 15, he played Giselher in the 2004 German TV movie Ring of the Nibelungs. Then he snagged the role of Cedric Diggory for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005). He recently left Italy, where he just finished making The Twilight Saga: New Moon sequel with Kristen Stewart, which is set to premier November 20, 2009. Contrary to tabloid rumors, the two stars are not dating.

Currently, he’s in New York filming the romantic tragi-comedy Remember Me with co-star Emilie de Ravin, to be released February of 2010.
